Properties and Mode of ActionEMERAL contains chlorphenoxamine hydrochloride, the antihistaminic, antiemetic which acts on the emetic centre; therefore affecting vomiting from any cause and which has sedative and anticholinergic actions, the latter making it even a more useful antiemetic.EMERAL also contains 8-chlorotheophylline which adds to the antiemetic potency of chlorphenoxamine hydrochloride while caffeine reduces its sedative effect.Indications Prevention and treatment of motion sickness, irradiation sickness, post-operative vomiting, nausea and vomiting of pregnancy and drug-induced nausea.Symptomatic treatment of nausea and vertigo due to Meniere's disease and other labyrinthine disturbances.Anaesthetic pre-medication.Dosage and AdministrationUnless otherwise prescribed by the physician:Adults:For prophylaxis: 1 - 2 coated tablets or 1 suppository 1/2 - 1 hour before travelling.The dosage may be repeated at time of departure or during the journey as required.For treatment: 1 - 2 coated tablets 2 - 3 times daily or 1 suppository 3 - 4 times daily.Children:Children 1 - 5 years: 1 tablet or 1 suppository 1 - 2 times daily.Children 6 - 12 years: 1 tablet or 1 suppository 2 - 3 times daily.PrecautionsPersistent nausea and vomiting of unknown origin must be clinically investigated.EMERAL may cause drowsiness; therefore people in charge of vehicles or machinery should be cautioned accordingly.As with all medications, therapy should start as late in pregnancy as the patient's symptoms will allow.Contra_indicationsDue to its anticholinergic properties, EMERAL should not be given to patients with glaucoma or prostatic enlargement.Side effects In particularly sensitive patients drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision or dryness of mouth may occur.PresentationEMERAL Tablets : Box of 2 blisters of 10 coated tablets each.EMERAL Suppositories for Adults : Box of 1 strip of 5 suppositories.EMERAL Suppositories for Children : Box of 1 strip of 5 suppositories.
